Strategies

A strategy is a set of rules the bot uses to decide when to buy. Each strategy reacts to different market conditions. One buys during a dip, another on a trend shift or breakout. The bot combines multiple strategies at the same time. This allows it to capture different types of market opportunities and reduces dependence on any single condition. Alongside the live strategies, a ghost bot runs continuously. It's a paper trading instance that tests additional strategies without real money. Those results are visible on the index page under "Strategies in testing". Well-performing strategies can be promoted to LIVE over time. There's nothing to configure yourself here. The bot's buy conditions run automatically for every account. You only choose your budget and max positions (see Settings).

The ghost bot tests additional strategies in paper mode without real money. Results are visible on the index page under "Strategies in testing".

Each testing strategy uses a different indicator system. They all run simultaneously in the background, fully automatically.

💡 Strategies with a positive avg PnL and a win rate above 80% are candidates for promotion to LIVE.

Settings

The bot keeps settings simple by default: its own built-in buy conditions and exit cascade decide when to enter and exit, so there's nothing to tune there unless you want to. The two settings everyone sets are trade amount (total budget) and max positions (how many positions at once). Budget is split equally across your max positions, with a minimum of €35 per position. If you want more control, "Manage Bot" has a "Strategy" section with a "Your own" mode: switch individual buy conditions off, turn the built-in safety net on or off, add a stop loss, cap how long a position can stay open, or free a slot for a new signal when your book is full. None of this is required. It exists so you can shape the bot's behaviour to your own risk appetite instead of relying on our judgment.

Every trade has a fee, charged as Bitvavo's standard taker fee (0.25%) since the bot always exits via a market order. Its built-in exit logic decides the moment to sell rather than resting a limit order in the book.

💡 The Avg PnL shown on the index and stats pages already includes fees. What you see is the net return.

Max Positions controls how many positions the bot can hold at once. Your budget is divided equally, with a minimum of €35 per position required. Below that, the built-in safety net can't sell off partial amounts (Bitvavo's own €5 minimum order size gets in the way), so a position under €35 has no step-by-step protection on the way down.

€500 trade amount · 10 positions → €50 per position €250 trade amount · 10 positions → ❌ €25 per position is too low
💡 10 positions is a solid default. In practice the slot limit is only hit a small fraction of the time, so going much higher rarely adds extra trades.

No. An empty whitelist means the bot scans all available coins. This is fine to start with.

A whitelist only makes sense once you have data on which coins perform well for your settings. Then you can focus the bot on proven coins.

💡 Wait for at least 20-30 trades per coin before drawing conclusions.

Over time, your stats will show which coins consistently perform well. Give those coins a higher weight in the whitelist so the bot allocates more budget to proven performers.

BTC-EUR: 45 trades · +0.8% · 88% win → weight 2x HUMA-EUR: 12 trades · +1.2% · 83% win → weight 3x XRP-EUR: 30 trades · -0.2% · 65% win → remove from whitelist

Weight 2x = double budget per position, but also uses double the slot count from Max Positions.

💡 Stats page = your own bot data. Index page = ghost bot data. Use both together for the best decisions.
📊

Index page

The index page is a live model and scenario tool. It shows how the ghost bot performs across different strategies and settings. It is done entirely in paper mode, with no real money involved. Use it as a reference (which strategies are working?), a decision tool (which strategies should I enable?), and a comparison against your own bot. It's not a guarantee of your results because your bot can have its own whitelist, settings and timing.

Avg PnL is the average return per closed trade, including fees. +0.86% means the bot averages 0.86% net profit per trade.

Win rate is the percentage of trades that close positively. 86% win rate = 86 out of 100 trades are profitable.

Win rate and avg PnL together tell the full story. A high win rate with a negative avg PnL means the losing trades are too large.

💡 The * next to Avg PnL means fees are already included. What you see is the net return.

Here's how to get the most out of the index:

  • Find conditions with positive avg PnL and a win rate above 80%
  • Use the "vs BTC" column to see which conditions actually beat just holding Bitcoin
  • Check per-tier data. A condition can work well for Large but poorly for Micro
💡 The ghost bot and your bot run independently. Your results may differ due to your own whitelist and budget.

The green LIVE indicator shows whether the ghost bot is currently active and collecting data. If it's grey, the bot is temporarily offline.

Results are updated as the ghost bot closes trades.

Stats & Positions

The stats page shows an overview of all closed trades from your bot. You can see per strategy and per coin how many trades were made, the average profit and the win rate. The positions page shows all currently open positions with the entry price, current price, unrealised profit/loss and the strategy that opened the position. You can also manually sell a position from this page. Together these two pages give you a complete picture of how your bot is performing and what's currently open.

The stats page shows all closed trades from your bot. You can filter by period (via reset moments), strategy and coin.

Use it to identify which coins consistently perform well for your account and fine-tune your whitelist accordingly.

💡 Filter by period using reset moments to see how your bot performs after a settings change.

The positions page shows all currently open positions. You can see the entry price, current price, unrealised P&L and the strategy that opened the position.

You can also manually sell a position from here. The bot will execute the sale via Bitvavo.

💡 Manual sells send a signal to the bot. The bot executes the sale and it may take a few seconds before the position disappears.

Almost certainly not. This strategy is built to win often (most trades close in profit within hours), and that comes with the opposite side: a small number of positions sit well underwater before recovering, closing, or being trimmed by the safety net.

Based on the bot's actual trading history, only 6.6% of positions ever drop this deep — most close well above that.

A position that drops sharply doesn't mean it stays there: the built-in safety net sells off part of the position in steps as it drops further (visible as a small 📉 badge), and it's designed to give a real dip room to recover rather than panic-sell at the first sign of red.

💡 With only a handful of trades, one bad early position can make your average look much worse than it will over time. Judge results over weeks and dozens of trades, not days.

The two pages complement each other:

  • Positions → what's open right now? Which positions have been open a long time?
  • Stats → which coins and strategies structurally perform well?

Use stats to tune your whitelist: coins that consistently perform well get a higher weight, coins that consistently underperform get removed.

💡 Combine with the index page: index shows ghost bot data, stats shows your own bot data.

General

Jean-Fa-Jean is a trading bot for Bitvavo. A Dutch crypto exchange. The bot trades automatically in EUR pairs based on technical indicators. Your money always stays in your own Bitvavo account. The bot only has access via an API key to place orders. It can and will never withdraw or transfer funds. You remain in full control at all times.

V2.0 is a complete rebuild of the bot's buy/sell rules, not a small update. In backtests over the same year, V2.0 traded more selectively and kept losses smaller than the previous version.

Because this is a big change, every account is paper trading only for now, with zero risk, while V2.0 proves itself in real market conditions before live trading is reopened.

💡 Backtests are never a guarantee, which is exactly why live trading stays off until real, live behavior confirms it.

The ghost bot is a paper trading instance that runs continuously in the background. It tests all available conditions simultaneously with simulated money, so no real orders are placed.

New conditions are tested in the ghost bot first, over a full market cycle, before being considered for live trading.

You can see the ghost bot results on the index page and in the Stats page under "Per Market Cap Tier".

💡 The ghost bot uses the same market data as your live bot. Results are a realistic indicator of what strategies are working right now.

Yes. There are four tiers, based on your trade amount:

  • Free (€0/mo) — up to €250
  • Basic (€0.99/mo) — €250 to €2,000
  • Pro (€6.99/mo) — €2,000 to €5,000
  • Plus (€14.99/mo) — €5,000+, and the only tier with DCA/averaging-down (buying more into a dip) available

Every tier has access to all buy conditions and settings, including the "Your own strategy" panel. See the pricing page for the live, real-money-free results of a bot running at each tier's settings.

💡 Start for free and upgrade once you see the bot performing well. No commitment required.

Currently Bitvavo is supported. Bitvavo is a Dutch exchange with low fees (0.15-0.25%) and a wide range of EUR pairs.

OKX and Kraken are on the roadmap.

💡 Use an API key with only "Read" and "Trade" permissions. Never give withdrawal rights to a bot API key.

Nothing. Your funds stay in your own Bitvavo account. The bot only has API access to place orders. If the bot stops, open positions remain open on Bitvavo.

You can manually sell at any time via Bitvavo, independently of the bot.

💡 Always stop the bot via the dashboard so that ongoing trades are properly handled.

Yes! Turn off "Live Trading" in the dashboard and the bot runs in paper mode. It simulates all trades but places no real orders.

In paper mode you don't need a real API key. All trades are visible in the stats page.

💡 Right now, everyone is paper-trading only. Live Trading is temporarily disabled for all accounts while we roll out V2.0 and monitor how it performs in practice.

Yes. Every subscriber gets their own referral code on the Refer a friend page. A friend who uses it gets 10% off their first payment, and you get 20% of what they pay (after fees) back as account credit, every month they stay subscribed.

💡 The referral page only appears once you have an active paid subscription, since the reward is credited against your own next invoice.

Use the Contact form, or join the Discord server. Both work whether or not you're logged in.
